AT NEW KILPATRICK CHURCH

HALLS, BEARSDEN G61 3RT

THE EARLY DAYS OF

PHOTOGRAPHY AND THE ‘BEST’ PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE TWENTIETH AND TWENTY-FIRST CENTURIES

PAUL HARRIS

We are delighted to welcome back art historian and author, Paul Harris, to run our fourth Study Day – our first on photography - from its earliest days to memorable, even sensational, images from more recent times.

Paul lectured us last year on the life of the early war correspondent, William Simpson, born into poverty in Glasgow’s working class. He wrote for the London Illustrated News and became a pillar of Victorian Society – a real rags-to-riches story. We can expect equally fascinating stories on the background to other photographers and images.

Cost per person: £26.00 to include morning coffee/tea and biscuits and a light lunch, supplied by ‘Table 13’ with a choice of a glass of wine or a soft drink.

I enclose cheque for £ ………… made payable to BMDFAS and a sae.

The Bearsden and Milngavie Fine Arts Society came into existence in 2007 offering members a varied programme of lectures on subjects connected to the Decorative and Fine Arts, as well as outings and a volunteering scheme.  The Society has a membership of 200 and operates a waiting list for potential members due to constraints on the size of our venue.

The Society meets on the second Monday of the month (Sept - June) at the New Halls of New Kilpatrick Church, Bearsden - please see our Where/when we meet page for more details.

Subject to space being available, a member may bring a guest on two occasions during the season, upon payment of a small fee.  However, please confirm the availability of space in advance with the Membership Secretary.
